Promoting British Values

The DfE has recently reinforced the need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.”

The government set out its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy. At Lancaster Lane, these values are reinforced regularly and in the following ways.

Democracy

We listen to each other and value what others say. Through the School Council, Pupil Parliamentarians and regular opportunities for pupil voice, we are listened to.

The Rule of Law

We all follow our three school rules. We are caring, we are proud and we are safe.

Individual Liberty

We are encouraged to make choices in a safe and supportive environment. We have a variety of clubs to choose from to attend and we share our outside achievements within celebration assembly every Friday.

Mutual Respect

We all respect each other at Lancaster Lane. If we fall out we work hard to repair and restore this. Adults will help us do this in restorative conversations.

Tolerance

We understand we live in a culturally diverse society. We learn about and value the beliefs of other faiths and cultures. We are an inclusive school.
